Nanny Cay, British Virgin Islands
It could not have gone better
; the perfect mix of people enjoying the same ambition and a location famous for its world class sailing. The fact that everyone got along so well made the program feel more like a group of friends sailing together than a training event.
The purchase of any liveaboard sailing yacht can be stressful
. The first year of ownership is usually the most challenging and we at VSV / Privilege Catamarans America are determined to make that transition to your new life much more enjoyable. We know from experience that if the new owner has a working knowledge of the vessel’s electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems, delivery day will bring more joy and less jitters. The experience of sailing, anchoring and docking your new boat increases your confidence.
Before the start of the event, all participants joined us for an evening at the Heritage Inn & Bananakeet Cafe, famous for its fantastic sunset views and great food.
The next morning we dove right into the boat's systems. All learning is 'hands-on' and took place aboard our new Privilege 500. There's no classroom time at Privilege Academy and the focus is always on areas that most impact the long-term, liveaboard sailor.
Understanding the mechanical systems and plumbing.
Setting up the gennaker.
Sailing in the BVI!
Learning to dock the boat.
Normally I would spare you the description of our lunch breaks, but the VSV team at Nanny Cay have fifteen years of hospitality experience and we were treated to lunches that far exceeded our expectations. This is the British Virgin Islands, so as soon as we finished our amazing desserts we cast off our lines and headed out into 17-18 knot winds for some great sailing. We also made sure to test the swim ladder.
This was essentially our agenda for three full days. Mornings spent learning about the boat itself and afternoons on the water sailing, anchoring and docking practice.
